Home to 10 professional teams across 5 codes, as well as headquarters of the National Football League, National Hockey League, National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball, and Major League Soccer, New York, is undoubtedly one of the greatest sporting cities in the world.  Sports have a long and distinguished history in the big apple and are a source of great pride for many New Yorkers. Due to proximity, many New York teams often have strong rivalries with Boston and Philadelphia based teams.

It doesn’t just end there either, New York is also the home of the US Open, one of just four Grand Slam tournaments in the world, many high profile boxing, UFC, and WWE events as well as the New York Marathon, the most participated marathon in the world.

Red Bull Arena - NJ

Red Bull Arena is a soccer-specific stadium located in New Jersey, just 12 kilometres west of Manhattan. The stadium opened in 2010 and is regarded as one of the best stadiums in the United States for soccer.

The stadium is home to the New York Red Bulls who also own and operate the stadium. On occasion, the stadium has also been used for rugby matches and concerts.

General Tips:

Get to the game early and join the supporters as they march across the Passaic River to Red Bull Arena.

Arrive early at the stadium to visit the BULLavard. A fan village with numerous games, challenges, competitions, and giveaways.

Alcohol service ends at the 55th minute. So make the most of the half time break if you are wanting to enjoy a beer in the second half!

Cameras are generally allowed so long as they do not interfere with the visibility of those around you. Tripods, selfie sticks, monopods and professional grade video/audio recorders are prohibited.

Bags smaller than 14” by 14” by 6” will be permitted after a security screen. Bags any larger will not be allowed in. 

Red Bull Arena has a strict “No Re-entry Policy” for all events.

Children under the age of 2 do not need a ticket to events at Citi Field so long as the child shares a seat with a guardian.

From Pennsylvania station take the PATH towards the World Trade Centre. You will stay on the PATH for just a few minutes before departing at Harrison Station and walking approx. 5 minutes across the Passaic River and into the stadium.

Outside food is permitted as long as it can fit within the baggage restrictions. 

Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden, also known as ‘The Garden’ or simply ‘MSG’ is a multi-purpose arena located in the heart of Manhattan, New York. The Garden is home to the New York Knicks. Madison Square Garden is not only the home of the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers, but it also transforms into a state of the art concert venue.

General Tips:

Alcohol sales will cease at the start of the third quarter for New York Knicks games and at the start of the third period for New York Rangers games.

Buy tickets in the Chase Bridge for a unique perspective looking down at the action. The Chase Bridge will give you a perspective on the game that you simply can't get anywhere else.

Madison Square Garden does not permit video cameras, tripods, selfie sticks, audio recording devices and professional cameras inside the venue.

If you must bring a bag to Madison Square Garden, it must be no larger than a standard backpack. All bags will be subject to a screening before entry is permitted.
Guests who do not bring a bag will enjoy No Bag Express Entry.

Children over the age of 1 will require a ticket to all Madison Square Garden events.

Madison Square Garden is located directly above Penn Station and is therefore easily accessible by train.  

The trains will take you to 34th Street/Penn Station where you can depart to enter the venue. Alternatively, you may also take the trains to the 34th Street/Herald Square stop where you can depart and simply walk one block west to The Garden.

Guests are not permitted to bring outside food into the venue. There is a range of food and beverage options inside.

General Tips:

Arrive early so that you can walk around the grounds, A ticket to Arthur Ashe during the US Open will also give you access to the other courts.

There will be a limit of one bag per person admitted onto the grounds. All bags are subject to search and cannot be larger than 12"W x 12"H x 16"L. There will be no bag storage on the grounds. For a nominal charge, there is a bag storage facility located outside the East Gate and South Gate entrances ($5 per bag, $10 per luggage).

  • Weapons (regardless of permit)
  • Animals (unless a service animal)
  • Flags, banners or signs
  • Any materials constituting unauthorized advertising or promotion
  • Laser pointing devices
  • Tennis racquets
  • Drones (UAS-Unmanned Aircraft Systems) or other model aircraft
  • Selfie-sticks or other telescopic devices
  • Any other items deemed inappropriate or dangerous by US Open personnel, in their sole discretion

Security & Prohibited Items

Use mass transit to make your trip to the US Open convenient and cost-effective.

Subway: The 7 train provides easy service from Grand Central Terminal to Mets-Willets Point Station, including connections for all Metro-North Trains from Westchester and Connecticut. Service is also available from the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Long Island Rail Road: LIRR provides service to Mets-Willets Point Station from Woodside, and convenient connections from Penn Station for New Jersey Transit customers. For guests with disabilities, get off the LIRR train at 61st/Woodside Station and transfer to the 7 train. Take the 7 train to Mets-Willets Point Station.

Schedules Online: The MTA website, mta.info, provides complete schedules and information about the most convenient ways to get the US Open.

Shirts and footwear are required to be worn at all times . Do not wear any clothing or accessories with indecent, inappropriate, or offensive messaging or imagery
Refrain from the use of foul, abusive, offensive or inappropriate language or gestures, and any inappropriate behavior that creates a disruptive atmosphere for other guests. Do not enter upon any tennis court. Consume alcoholic beverages in a responsible and lawful manner. Do not use fan/user based video streaming apps and video recording devices to record on-court action or activities. Show your ticket upon request and only sit in your designated seat, where applicable. Follow instructions from event staff regarding event operations or emergency procedures. Umbrellas may not be in the open position during play. Refrain from smoking, as this is a smoke-free environment

Guests who do not adhere to the US Open Guest Code of Conduct will be subject to ejection without refund and/or possible arrest and may be prohibited from attending future US Opens. If any guest observes any inappropriate behavior or an incident of concern, please contact the nearest event staff or text a message to the US Open Command Center at (917) 708-8080

Yankee Stadium

The current Yankee Stadium was opened in 2009 just two blocks north of the original structure, Yankee Stadium was the most expensive stadium ever built.

These days Yankee Stadium is more than just a baseball field. As well as providing a home to the New York Yankees(MLB), the ground is also the home of New York’s newest team, New York City FC(MLS). 

General Tips:

If you’re looking to get in the mood before the game, be sure to visit Stan’s or Billy’s Sports Bars to soak in some of the atmospheres with the Yankees diehards. If you’re looking to experience some Baseball history, get to the stadium early and visit Monument Park and the Yankees Museum which boats plenty of information and artefacts of Baseball’s most successful team.

Alcohol sales will cease at the conclusion of the 7th innings during baseball games and in the 70th minute during soccer matches.

You are welcome to bring cameras of any kind to Yankee stadium events so long as they don’t impact the visibility of those around you. Tripods, monopods, selfie sticks and video/audio specific equipment is however prohibited.

As per MLS regulations, fans are only permitted to bring a soft-sided bag if it is smaller than 16 inches by 16 inches by 8 inches. All bags will be subject to a security check before you are permitted to enter the venue.

Yankee Stadium has a strict “No Re-entry Policy” for all events.

Children under the age of 3 and smaller than 30 inches tall do not need a ticket to events at Yankee Stadium so long as the child shares a seat with a guardian. 

Yankee Stadium is easily accessible by train. The No. 4 train and the D train make stops at the 161st Street/Yankee Stadium subway station.

Guests are permitted to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages into Yankee Stadium.
